Supernova neutrinos and neutrino intrinsic properties

چکیده
We investigate the feasibility of probing the neutrino mixing angle φ13 and the mass hierarchy with observations of the neutrino bursts from a future supernova. The analysis is based on a density profile of relaxed inverse power-law, ρ ∼ r, to account for the uncertainty of n residing in the supernova mechanism. The survival probabilities of νe and ν̄e are shown to reduce to two-dimensional functions of n and φ13. It is found that in the n − sin φ13 parameter space, the 3D plots of probability functions exhibit highly non-trivial structures which are sensitive to the mass hierarchy, the mixing angle φ13, and the uncertainty of n. The criteria that give rise to observable differences in the 3D plots are established. With the uncertainty of n considered, an analysis that further incorporates qualitative observation of the Earth matter effect is also included. Constraining absolute neutrino masses via detection of galactic supernova neutrinos at JUNO
A high-statistics measurement of the neutrinos from a galactic core-collapse supernova is extremely important for understanding the explosion mechanism, and studying the intrinsic properties of neutrinos themselves. In this paper, we explore the possibility to constrain the absolute scale of neutrino masses mν via the detection of galactic supernova neutrinos at the Jiangmen Underground Neutrin...

Core collapse supernovae are a huge source of all flavor neutrinos. The flavor composition, energy spectrum and time structure of the neutrino burst from a galactic supernova can provide information about the explosion mechanism and the mechanisms of proto neutron star cooling. Such data can also give information about the intrinsic properties of the neutrino such as flavor oscillations. One im...
متن کاملCore-collapse supernova neutrinos and neutrino properties
Core-collapse supernovae are powerful neutrino sources. The observation of a future (extra-)galactic supernova explosion or of the relic supernova neutrinos might provide important information on the supernova dynamics, on the supernova formation rate and on neutrino properties. One might learn more about unknown neutrino properties either from indirect effects in the supernova (e.g. on the exp...

Even though the combined laboratory, astrophysical and cosmological evidence implies that neutrinos have masses, neutrinos provide only a small cosmic dark matter component. The study of solar neutrinos provides important information on nuclear processes inside the Sun as well as on matter densities. Moreover, supernova neutrinos provide sensitive probes for studying supernova explosions, neutr...
متن کاملDecays of supernova neutrinos
Supernova neutrinos could be well-suited for probing neutrino decay, since decay may be observed even for very small decay rates or coupling constants. We will use a combined description of neutrino decay and neutrino oscillations for supernova neutrinos, especially taking into account two properties: One is the radially symmetric neutrino flux, allowing a decay product to be re-directed toward...
متن کاملThe Supernova Early Warning System
A core collapse in the Milky Way will produce an enormous burst of neutrinos in detectors worldwide. Such a burst has the potential to provide an early warning of a supernova's appearance. I will describe the nature of the signal, the sensitivity of current detectors, and SNEWS, the SuperNova Early Warning System, a network designed to alert astronomers as soon as possible after the detected ne...
